Top 5 FREE IOS Apps!

Now having an iPhone I have the pleasure of plowing through the App Store and hunt for the best games/apps out there.

To make this easier I have made 2 lists. The first will be my most used and the second will be the best games I have currently. In no particular order:

Top 5 Most Used Apps:

Instagram

You all probably like me, use this app on a daily basis but just encase you don't, you can share your photography talent or the perfect selfie with the world. With Instagram I love the photo feed layout of the app, it's a seamless flow which are great especially on devices like my iPhone 6 plus.

Snapchat

I feel Snapchat was first designed to showcase what I'm calling the 'Anti-Selfie'. Basically everyone could take an ugly selfie and send it to there friends without judgement. With all your friends doing this you cannot help but download and join in.

Iphone 6 Plus Review!

I have had the Iphone 6 Plus for just over a week now and overall I am really happy with the mobile device.

My obvious first impression was it is a lot larger than the previous models.

As you can see from the picture above, the Iphone 6 Plus is next to the Iphone 5S and Iphone 4.

For many the size is a problem but for me it was absolutely fine. I previously had the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 so with the same screen sizes there was not much to get used to. One thing I did notice when first holding it was that it is quite a lot thinner than the Note 2 and a little lighter. After a few days I got used to the change and it feels like a perfect weight now.

One of my friends commented that my phone didn't have a case. My friend has the Iphone 6 and decided against the 6 plus because of the slippery back. Personally I don't feel the back is slippy. If anything the Note 2 is slipperier.

Instead of me rambling here is a few pros and cons of this device:

Pros:
  • Large Screen- The screen size is beautiful to watch videos and browse the web. If you're a Netflix or YouTube addict, the screen is great. You can watch videos in 1080p which is an upgrade for me as the Note 2 only provided 720p.
  • Battery Life- The battery life on this phone is really good. For the first few days with heavy use I could get through a day with still some battery left. However, as I got used to the phone and had everything I needed on there the usage came down and if fully charged I can easily have 50% left which is great.
Cons;
  • Big Screen capability- There are not that many apps that take advantage of the huge screen size and Apple really needs to implement some features within their next update to make use of the extra screen space. Some apps such as Message, uses the screen size better but I would still like to see certain apps to take advantage.
  • YouTube- PLEASE!- Coming from an android device to an IOS device I was expecting some changes in layout but the YouTube app, well. The IOS app is very layered, with boxes and small images for thumbnails. I would like to see the layout go more like the Android app which feels just like an Instagram feed with the thumbnails. Also going back to the point above, YouTube could do more to implement the bigger screen with the subscription feed.
Finally, many of you will of heard about the bend that had happened with the Iphone 6 Plus near the volume keys. I am happy to say that my device hasn't bent but if you don't leave it in your pocket while sitting down or leave it in your back pocket and sit down then you really shouldn't have any problems.

I am always on the hunt for great IOS apps so let me know in the comments which apps you have been loving and ill give them a go.

Thank you,

Tom

Big Hero 6 Review- Marvel/Disney Masterpiece

From Walt Disney Studios, comes Big Hero 6. Big Hero 6 is set in a futuristic city called San Fransokyo. It centres around Hiro Hamada, who, with his friends and his brother Tadashi's robot designed for healthcare, Baymax, set off to save the city of San Fransokyo from a notorious villain.

Big Hero 6 is a Marvel Disney combo. It is the first Disney film of Marvel property. Visually Big Hero 6 is amazing and definitely gives live action scenes a run for its money.

While watching I couldn't help but relate this to a male targeted Frozen.

Both Frozen and Big Hero 6 have:
  • Great main characters (Elsa & Hiro)
  • Loveable comedy characters (Olaf & Baymax)
  • Both contain death and grieving ( Elsa's Parents & Hiro's Brother and Parents)
  • Superpowers (Elsa Ice & Baymax and friends tech power)

If you have a children that are too young for The Avengers then you need to absolutely take them to see this.

Overall, Big Hero 6 was an enjoyable movie that I feel everyone should see. Would I watch it again? Probably if someone else wanted to but I wouldn't freely decide to watch it again if I went back to the cinema. The film as a whole is a great step in the right direction in superhero action animation.

If you have watched Big Hero 6 then make sure to let me know what you think below. Give me your opinions.

Thanks,

Tom

Healthy Slushie Smoothie Recipe

For Christmas my parents brought me a smoothie maker, well a Nutribullet to be precise. This machine is great at breaking up fruit and other healthy substances to make great smoothies.

My favourite smoothie I have made is the one I am sharing with you today, my very own Slushie Smoothie Recipe.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Blender
  • Frozen Watermelon
  • Frozen Pineapple or Strawberries
  • Ice
  • Grapes
  • Water

First take your smoothie machine cup and add around 6-8 pieces of frozen watermelon.

Taken 3 Review

Like many people I have mixed views on the Taken franchise. Taken 1 was amazing, action and narrative was perfectly balanced and it was something new that we hadn't seen before.

Then Taken 2 came along. Within the franchise I would definitely say that this is the weakest of the three. The twists were very predictable and you knew what was happening next.

Before writing this review I had a look what others thought and majority of them were actually negative. Some of the comments I agreed with but some were a little harsh. All in all I thought Taken 3 was a pretty good film. If you are an action junkie then this is absolutely the film for you.

The synopsis of the film is as follows:

Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his "particular set of skills," to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now - his daughter

Like Taken 2 there was definitely moments in which the narrative was predictable such as, if he would survive or not. However, I do think that the coverage of action and overall story line was done pretty well and brought me an enjoyable experience.

The film did feel like a little add on to the last 2 and bringing nothing really new to the franchise apart from a main character death and a new life. On the plus side I do think that the character Kim was acted a little better than the scared silly girl in the first film.

I do feel that the creators of the film have rinsed this series dry and Taken 3 did feel like the ending to the franchise. There actually was a nice twist at the end but then the film went back to predictable.

If you have watched Taken 3 let me know what you thought of the film in 2 words in the comments below.

Thanks,

Tom
